BSNL Important to Ensure Balance in Market: BSNL has been mandated by the government to use only indigenous or indigenous technology to launch 4G and 5G networks in India.
This has facilitated the process of next generation network launch for BSNL. While private telcos are now offering 4G/5G to customers across India, BSNL is still stuck with the 4G rollout process.
BSNL Important to Ensure Balance in Market
The problem is that there was no proven technology for 4G and 5G in India for telcos to launch. So it took a long time for BSNL to launch 4G.
Bsnl which represents over 3 crore workers in India, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that BSNL be allowed to upgrade telecom infrastructure using technology from global vendors.
The request has been made by BMS as BSNL is losing customers to private telcos due to not having a high-speed network like theirs.
Until proven technology is ready to be deployed at scale, BMS has requested the Prime Minister to allow BSNL to use technology from international vendors.
BMS said BSNL is important to ensure balance in the market and avoid any monopoly situation. The association cited tariff hikes from private telecom operators.
The agency said data services would become too expensive for poor people and would be a setback to the government’s efforts to bridge the digital divide.
It is worth noting that the government has already reserved 4G and 5G spectrum for BSNL in all telecom circles in the country.
The relief package given to state-run telecom operators is already helping build operating profits. At such a time, if BSNL can roll out a high-speed network, it could contribute to the company’s customer churn.
